We Can Win This!!

I was discussing the remarkable ascent of Kamala Harris with a friend when I noticed that for the first time in a very, very long time how I felt light—giddy even. My friend felt the same way.

“This is what hope feels like,” I said.

It’s hard to fully describe the crushing weight the former president’s ugly regime had on me. Had on so many. The depth of his cruelty and the depravity of his policies, his racism, his misogyny, and the possibility that he might win a second term left me in a depressed state of terror. And this time, he was better organized, with Project 2025 outlining exactly how he planned to destroy our democracy.

As it’s often said, a few days in politics can be an eternity, and in this case it was. Just a few days after Biden passed the torch, Vice President Harris broke all kinds of records — fundraising, Zoom call attendance, endorsements, new voter registrations (more than 170,000 people since she announced her candidacy).  The collective pent-up energy of tens of millions of Americans suddenly erupted with the belief that we can create a better future, that we can win this thing.

We can’t take anything for granted. We all need to step up and support Harris break to that glass ceiling and become the first woman and first woman of color elected President of the United States. Democracy is not a spectator sport. Canvas in swing states! Join a grassroots organization! Donate! Write postcards! Get out the youth vote! Sign up to be an election monitor! Donate to key House and Senate races! Hope creates momentum and momentum creates change!

At the end of this newsletter I mention just a few organizations doing the heavy lifting of electing Kamala Harris. We have the numbers. We have the momentum. Together, it does not have to be a burden—together we can unite in joy and hope and stand together, victorious, and witness President Kamala Harris take the oath of office on January 20, 2025.
