Ravenous: The Cover

September 27th, 2010 — 7:13pm

Isn’t this cover beautiful? I asked the great Ali Zeigler, who used to be the art director at Yoga Journal, to design a cover with a food image that would make the reader not only feel lust, but want to reach out and grab. She, in turn, commissioned a photo by Katie Quinn Davies, a great food photographer based in Australia, and here is the result.

I love it! It takes a village and I have a great one.

Apples

September 27th, 2010 — 6:50pm

Scott and I planted a Fuji tree six years ago. It started about a foot tall. Last year, it gave us one apple. The day I went to pick it, I found a squirrel had eaten half.

But this year, hallelujah! We’re feasting on apples! Our tree has probably produced about 100, and yes, I’m eating an apple a day.

What is it about eating fruit from your own trees? I feel tender towards these apples, grateful for every tart bite.

Oysters

September 23rd, 2010 — 7:25pm

Today, Matthew, Jack and I went to Sea Salt during Happy Hour and we were very happy! Oysters for a buck a piece! So, Jack and I ate 40, while Matthew had some crunchy fish and chips. It was a wonderful and luscious.

Oysters are otherworldly — a rare food that lingers on the tongue with different tastes emerging over time. A sublime indulgence.
